There are so many great environments and routes to explore if you’re planning on cycling in Northwich.
Whether you’re zooming around the countryside, discovering the beauty of our country lanes or hitting some epic forest trails, cycling in Northwich and Mid Cheshire is a great way to spend some free time.
Country Parks and Green Spaces
Northwich’s parks and green spaces provide numerous opportunities for cyclists to saddle up and get into gear. The Northwich Woodlands, which comprises nine areas, has miles of paths to explore and you can get back to nature.
Ashton’s and Neumann’s flashes offer great cycling too and you can stop off on your journey to enjoy the rare wildlife and plant life that thrives there.
Don’t forget about Marbury Park either. Whizz under ancient trees, cycle alongside Budworth Mere and afterwards you can refresh yourself at the café.
Rivers & Canals
Northwich’s waterways are ideal if you’re looking for a casual, scenic bike ride. The Trent and Mersey Canal takes in both the Lion Salt Works and the Anderton Boat Lift, and also offers beautiful glimpses of the Cheshire countryside.
Cyclists are also bound to enjoy following the course of the River Weaver as it meanders through the heart of the county. It’s useful for combining routes too. For example cyclists can reach Winsford along the Weaver which can then be linked to the pleasant Whitegate Way.
Hit The Road
If road cycling is more your thing don’t worry, Northwich has a wide range of back lanes to enjoy. It’s also a stone’s throw from the popular Cheshire Cycleway Route 70. Enjoyed by cyclists all over the North West, the route takes in some of Cheshire’s finest towns, villages and countryside.
Road cycling in Mid Cheshire really does have something for everyone. There are plenty of hills if that’s your thing, while it’s flat enough to enjoy a leisurely workout should you prefer to simply enjoy the scenery.
Take to the Trails
Prefer blasting around off road away from traffic? Northwich is handily placed to reach a number of brilliant routes and trails for cyclists.
Delamere Forest is one of the North West’s premier destinations for bike enthusiasts and can easily be reached by road and rail. There’s two waymarked cycle trails, Hunger Hill and Whitemoor, or you can go off-piste and discover your own new route.
The Whitegate Way offers fun for cyclists too. The flat six mile route, which used to be a train track, goes from Cuddington to Winsford and is perfect for all abilities.
