River Festival Returns for 2023

The much-loved Northwich River Festival will return for its fifth year. Organised by Northwich Rotary Club, this free to attend event will take place on Saturday 15th July 2023.

Each year, the Dragon Boat teams compete in heats racing down the river to the beat of their drummer and the cheering crowds on the bank of the river Weaver.

Martin Fallon, President of Northwich Rotary Club said “We can’t wait for this years festival – we’ve looked at how we’ve delivered the event over the last few years and are bringing together all the best bits to create our biggest year yet”

“We’ve moved the event to coincide with Northwich Krazy Races, giving people a whole weekend of family friendly, free to attend fun. Each year this event helps us raise money to support local good causes and we’re committed to putting on a show to remember.”

Alongside the Dragon Boat Racing, crowds can enjoy a funfair, delicious food & drink and free street games with much more still to be announced.

The annual duck race will also take place on the river

With 2,000 rubber ducks dropped into the Dane, and the first one across the line will win its ticket holder £200.

John Walton, who conceived the event back in 2017, added “Rotary have championed this event and now we have something that’s a firm fixture in the annual events calendar for Northwich. I’m proud of the work my fellow Rotarians have put into this event and look forward to seeing the crowds enjoy what’s been put together for 2023.”

With activity starting at 11am, visitors are encouraged to arrive early for a prime viewing spot.

Team entries are now open and businesses, community groups or even friendship groups are invited to submit a team. Last years winners, Visit Northwich, will be returning for 2023 to try and regain their Dragon Boat Champion title.

Our very own Visit Northwich’s dragon boat team said “Last year, it was a last-minute decision to create a team, with no training and lots of last minute changes, we managed to win. Our team was made up of local businesses, our BID team and town councillors. We’re coming back protect our crown and to be the loudest and fastest team on the river!”
