Northwich is set to get new major national retailers after Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) confirmed that it had exchanged contracts with two businesses to open stores in Barons Quay.
Handover of the 3,000 square foot unit close to ASDA and Marks & Spencer is planned for the end of September, with the toy store anticipated to open in time for Christmas.
CWAC Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, Councillor Brian Clarke, said: “This is exciting news for the town and for local residents.
“Negotiations are currently underway with several other retail and leisure businesses and we would hope to announce these over the coming weeks and months – adding to the fashion retailer who signed-up to Barons Quay back in May.”
Following the announcement, Councillor Clarke added: “We welcome the news that another big brand, high street store is coming to Barons Quay.
“Our long-term vision has always been to create a vibrant town centre where residents can shop, live, work and enjoy leisure time, and this latest news goes a long way towards our ultimate goal.”
Northwich BID Manager Jane Hough has welcomed the news regarding The Entertainer and Sports Direct and believes they will complement the town’s already diverse retail offering.
“The recent announcements regarding Barons Quay are great news for Northwich, continuing to move the town in a positive direction.
“Alongside our brilliant independent retailers, these two well-known high-street chains will give a further incentive for shoppers to visit Northwich.”
