Monotype printing is a unique and versatile printmaking technique that produces one-of-a-kind prints, unlike traditional methods that create multiples of the same image. The process involves creating a single original image on a smooth, non-absorbent surface such as a metal or glass plate, using ink or paint. Once the image is complete, it is transferred onto paper by pressing the paper against the plate, usually with the help of a printing press. Because the ink or paint is only partially transferred during this process, the artist can then modify the image on the plate and make additional prints, each differing from the last.
