Friday 26th November – Northwich to Greenbank to Cuddington to Delemere  station. Starting at 10.15am at Northwich station.

The Stockton & Darlington Railway opened on 27th September 1825, connecting places, people, communities and ideas and ultimately transforming the world.

Railway 200 is a year-long nationwide partnership-led campaign to celebrate 200 years of the modern railway and inspire a new generation of young, pioneering talent to choose a career in rail. It invites community, rail, and other groups to get involved.

The Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership is marking the anniversary with a ‘baton relay’.

Over six days in September (23rd to 27th), walkers will carry a special baton, created by community knitting group Northwich Toppers, along the historic Cheshire Lines Committee route from Manchester to Chester, calling at all the stations on the route.

This celebratory walk is free to take part in and with both short and longer walks, there is something to suit varying levels of fitness.

The final day of the walks on 27th September coincides with the first passenger commute 200 years ago.

The Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership is a Community Interest Company (CIC) which works in partnership with train operator Northern to connect communities with their railway. We do this through promoting rail travel as one of the most environmentally friendly forms of transport available, supporting our station adoption groups (volunteers who enjoy gardening and other activities to keep the stations looking their best) and bringing social and economic benefit to communities along the Mid Cheshire Line.

Sarah Muir, Community Rail Officer for the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership said…

“ We welcome people from communities along the Mid Cheshire Line to join in with one or more of our station to station relay walks. They are the perfect way to meet new people, improve your fitness and take in the scenic Cheshire countryside and vibrant and historic towns and cities which the line travels through-plus marking this very special anniversary year.” For more details about the walks and to register your interest please email [email protected]
