We decided to spend a Friday night in Northwich to see first-hand what amazing night-life it has to offer. It’s safe to say we weren’t disappointed! We stopped off at many places including Salty Dog, Grape & Bean, and Quayside. Oh plus a trip to McDonalds before the night was over…

Don’t worry – we’re going to plan plenty more nights on in Northwich but for now we thought we’d focus on Board Beans where we made the most of the £3 for 3 hours of games they offer.

When we arrived we were greeted by the lovely Betsy. She made us feel really welcome from the get-go and explained that we could order food and drinks and that she would come round and explain any games we were unsure of!

The games we played were…

Kitten – We started off nice and easy to get warmed up – but things got competitive really quickly! The object of the game is simple, you draw a card then need to use the Kitten blocks to build what’s in front of you. The scramble to get the right pieces before your opponent is what makes the game really funny – as well as when one of you knocks your blocks over and has to start again!

Cobra Paw – The first player (the player with the smallest paws!) rolls the two dice to reveal 2 symbols. The players must then race to spot the two symbols matching those on the dice! You claim the piece by placing a finger on the tile. The winning player then gets to take that dice!

Blokus – Each player has to fit as many of his/her 21 pieces on the board as possible. But of course, it isn’t as easy as that! You have to follow certain rules as part of the game. For example, each new piece must touch at least one other piece of the same colour, but only at the corners.

Want your own games night at Board Beans? You can book a table via their website or just simply head down when they are open. They are based on Witton Street and have plenty of food/drink options too!
