For the second year running, Northwich has been shortlisted for the ‘Rising Star Award’ in the Great British High Street Awards, sponsored by Visa, after the town was entered by the Northwich Business Improvement District (BID).
28 high streets across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have been shortlisted, with each location recognised for their transformative work and involvement with local communities.
Following a thorough selection process, 12 high streets have been shortlisted in the Champion high street category while 28 high streets, including Northwich, have been shortlisted in the Rising Star category which shines a spotlight on towns or city centres that are focused on creating a better future for the people that work, live and visit there.
Northwich BID Manager Jane Hough believes the town has a great chance to go one better than being awarded the runner-up prize that it received in 2018.
“Once again we’re delighted to have been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award which is testament to what the Northwich BID is trying to achieve here in the town with the help of partners and the community.
“Over the past year we have worked on projects to make Northwich more accessible which has included a drive to make us a Makaton friendly town and there has also been an emphasis on teamwork across our businesses to support and deliver activities and initiatives.
“This has seen numerous festivals organised such as the Dead Dead Good weekend, the Northwich Festival of Arts and Northwich Scooter Day, while Now Northwich will return in October and this will be followed by the ever-popular Northwich Christmas Extravaganza.
“All of these events see us working with key partners such as Northwich Town Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, local schools and community groups and we’re hoping to continue to build and develop these relationships going forward.”
The finalists will now battle it out in a public vote, which accounts for 20 percent of the final scoring, and will then have the chance to impress an expert judging panel as they seek to be crowned Britain’s best.
The winning entries for both the Champion and Rising Star categories will be announced in November at an awards ceremony.
