A feel-good song about Northwich has taken off on social media after the Northwich Business Improvement District (BID) shared it over the Easter weekend.
Written and performed by Jim Stanley who is a resident of the town, the song highlights some of Northwich’s shops, bars and key landmarks with the tune taking listeners from the top of Witton Street all the way down to The Salty Dog near to the Bull Ring.
Through the Visit Northwich Facebook page, the post featuring the song has received well over 40,000 views, over 200 comments and nearly 500 shares, with people from the town showing their love for Jim’s creation and how it portrays Northwich.
Speaking to the BID, Jim has explained his reasoning behind creating the song and also revealed how pleased he has been with the reaction so far.
“I composed the song after l had sketched pictures of famous Northwich buildings and began to feel nostalgic about my past in the town,” said Jim.
“All the places have a personal connection to me. I have paintings on display in the Penny Black, l painted in the street for many years outside Bruschetta, l buy my art materials at the Northwich Art Shop and l drink at the Barons Lounge and the Salty Dog. I also have my haircut at Crate and l adore the lunchtime buffet at Bratt&Evans,” he added.
“As well as being an artist l teach at Adswood Primary School in Stockport and the school has many of my murals permanently on display. I have tried for years to a have some success but little did l expect a song recorded on my phone to generate 40000 views and 500 shares!”
Northwich BID Manager Jane Hough fell in love with the song the moment she heard it and isn’t surprised by the reaction on social media.
“I think it’s brilliant that Jim has written a song about Northwich. It’s really catchy and you can sense just how much he loves the town and the businesses that he so often visits here.
“The number of views, likes, comments and shares the song has received on Facebook is amazing – deep down there are clearly a lot of people who really love this town.”
As well as the song, Jim has also created a series of sketches of famous landmarks within Northwich. The postcards can be found on sale at Northwich Art Shop, 111 Witton Street and at Abda Café, 2 Crown Street.
